About The Broward Health Foundation

Broward Health Foundation Building

Formed in 1999 and governed by an active Board of Directors, the Broward Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health of its community by providing resources to promote, support, and enhance the programs and initiatives of Broward Health. Broward Health operates with a mission to provide quality healthcare to the people it serves and to support the needs of all its physicians and employees. For more than seventy years, Broward Health has served as a healthcare “safety-net” provider for the northern two-thirds of Broward County – over 275 square miles.

Broward Health offers inpatient and outpatient services to the uninsured and underinsured – regardless of their ability to pay – and is one of the ten largest public healthcare systems in the nation. The Broward Health system includes Broward Health Medical Center, Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital, Broward Health North, Broward Health Imperial Point, Broward Health Coral Springs, Broward Health Weston, and more than thirty Community Health Services facilities.

While quality medical care is the cornerstone of Broward Health, it is through Community Health Services that the health system truly connects with the community. It is the Division’s mission to provide a network of family health service sites that offer both affordable and comprehensive primary healthcare—including home health services and hospice services—throughout neighborhood community locations, primarily serving indigent patients and the working poor. Through a variety of school-based and neighborhood-oriented facilities, the Community Health Services Division provides pre-natal care, prevention and education, outreach, case/disease management, primary care, specialty care, urgent care, dental care, outpatient diagnostic testing, home health care, and hospice care.

Patricia Rowe-King, MD

Patricia Rowe-King, M.D., is the past Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for Broward Health Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center. In addition, she has served as a pediatric hospitalist since 1997 and is currently the Medical Director of Pediatric Services at Broward Health for EmCare, and the Pediatric Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program. Dr. Rowe-King graduated from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Boston University where she graduated Cum Laude.

Dr. Rowe-King has several passions which include being the past Chair of the Credentialing and Qualifications Committee at Broward Health Medical Center. She serves as a Physician Committee member on the State of Florida Children’s Medical Services Physician Review Committee. Dr. Rowe-King has a vested interest in the delivery of complex medical care to children with special needs. Beginning in 2003 until 2006, she served as Medical Director of the Children’s Multidisciplinary Assessment Team of Children’s Medical Services for Broward County and currently serves on Community Advocacy Boards. Dr. Rowe-King has committed herself to the development of healthcare service in underserved rural communities.

She has been the Medical Mission Team Director of “Friends Reaching Friends,” a nonprofit organization that conducts mission work in the Caribbean and South America. She has led the Medical Mission Team to the Dominican Republic and Belize for 15 years and has been accompanied by pediatricians, gynecologists, nurse practitioners and staff nurses from Broward Health. In these underserved communities, pediatric clinics are set up and run from homes and area schools. Dr. Rowe-King is Board Certified in Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University, a Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida International University and an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine.

Advisory Board

The Broward Health Foundation Advisory Board is composed of a group of talented, experienced, or otherwise influential individuals who are invited to provide ongoing advice and support to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff. Members of the Advisory Board are not current members of the Board of Directors, but are volunteers with a passion for Broward Health, and who provide valuable assistance and advice to the both the Foundation Board and staff.
